Does Jason commonly use alternative tunings? The only one I can think of is in Dynamo which is in drop D.

I'm pretty sure Drop D is the only alternative tuning I've seen/heard him use.
Dynamo, Rand McNally, 1,000 Things, Unfold, hmmm I'm sure there's others but I don't recall him using any others really. (and 1,000 Things doesn't even need to be played in Drop D, but you can and it sounds cool lol) Now, you want some wacky alternative tunings? Check out Goo Goo Dolls and John Mayer XD haha Dan

I guess it gets difficult to keep tuning more than a few strings on stage. He's all about just getting up there and playing its seems, without the faffing of changing guitars or retuning. Makes sense. I wrote my first song in a different tuning recently though, and I'm so pleased with it. It definately offers more scope. But definately more faffing. Ian

Is drop D really an "alternate "tuning? in my head, its a fairly common tuning and most of the 80's rock groups couldn't release an album
without 50% of the songs being in drop D.
That being said, Drop D is the ONLY other tuning he uses that i know of. He just usually slides the capo up & down, and pretty much uses a lot of the same chords. (Bella Luna, Make It Mine, butterfly, RKOP, practically same chords, Wordplay, Curbside prophet, Remedy, Ghettoblaster, YAIB, 100 things, sleeping to dream etc., all practically same chords) * Want some fucked up tunings? check out Tim Buckleys stuff, i'm sure you'll agree that smack is wack.. Makana , the slack key guitarist, uses all kinds of different tunings too, interesting stuff.. * I know you guitarists know this, but the new fan coming to this thread may find that info useful. Bruski--| i tune my guitar EEEEEE .... and i'm NEVER off key when i play barred chords:b |

I would call drop D an alternative tuning. I'd call anything other than EADGBe an alternative tuning myself. I'm no expert though, haha, I've only
just ventured into writing in anything other than standard tuning/with a capo, as I say. Lovin' it though. I'm just looking for another tuning
that's only a few strings different from EADGBe so that I can change it easily.

DADGAD? thats a pretty popular one i think.. its only one step down on 3 different strings ..
chris carrabba always used stuff like that, or DADDDD in his old acoustic songs.. i could just be making this stuff up. but you could try
love is love sufficient unto love and you can figure out the rest
