I'm feeling old amongst all the young blood and need more of "my kind" to chit-chat with. Personally, I'm looking for a new job right now and it SUCKS. I have so much experience, I think I'm over-qualified from everything I apply for! Anyone relate?

Anyone relate? good god. let's commiserate. i just got in a huge fight with the mom re: looking for a job. how's this: i just got my masters degree (in italian) and am presently working at a restaurant as a hostess. yes, i'm making 8$ an hour and every half our i have to check the restroom and clean up after the lazy/dirty motherfuckers who piss all over the seat. good times. also, since i've never lived in italy, i don't speak italian like a native speaker and, as a result, am not qualified to translate or really do anything specifically with italian. i want to work in publishing (like so many of my friends who just got their masters), but the publishing industry is going through some crazy changes and right now there's not a lot of money/jobs to go around. soooooo. it sucks. oh and i'm 24, but i still feel qualified to post in this thread. in 6 monts i'll be 25. goddamn. i hate birthdays .melissa.

Hm, I'd like to surf the internet all day. I'm looking for something that maybe combines supervision, writing, lots of computer work, website updating, event planning, maybe even a little desktop publishing in the form of a cheesy company newsletter. I'm a jack of all trades, office-wise There are quite a few jobs I'm interested in, but I'm just getting no bites and I'm frustrated! Although, I've only been searching for about a month, so...yeah.

I have a BA in English and some master's work in art, and lemme tell ya, I'm not doing anything NEAR what I feel I should be doing. And I won't even get into what my mom thinks.

Have you considered going to Italy? I'm sure you could get a job translating into and/or teaching English there, and you'd firm up your language skills. It's obviously less than you're qualified for, but you'll probably have more fun and make more money than hostessing. (I'm full of news about other people's careers... don't mind me.)
