FUN FACTS!!!!
This is one of my favorites on the album and it features Rachael Yamagata on guest vocals. Its an upbeat Queen styled duet about two people who cant seem to get connected because their phone service has a strange delay in the message delivery. I wrote this song with Dan Wilson of Semisonic fame when I spent time in Minneapolis rehearsing for the curbside tour. I was experiencing traumatic cellular withdrawal at the time and he was dealing with his own form of missed-communication with his babysitter and wife about who was picking up his child from school. We were curious as to where our messages went from the time we left them until the time they were received. I was banging on the piano and Dan a strumming and before we knew it we were rag-timing our troubles away. We recorded the demo on Dans handheld Dictaphone and later extracted piano parts and random info from the crappy recording to salvage the song. Its difficult to capture the rapture in only 30 seconds, but this song bumps and thumps and breaks into pink floyd-isms and beach boys stacks throughout its 4 minutes and some odd seconds.
this is the first song the label freaked out on when we began turning in mixes and was actually poised to be the first single before i turned in wordplay.
Tristan was on tour at the time we made this album. I had planned ahead of time to use Rachael anyway as she and i had been looking for a project together for quite some time. I wanted a lady with soul who could scream at me in the end. Tristan doesnt have a scream shes too nice and calm. like a kitty.
loving love as usual.
sir loves-a-lot
