Song for a friend This song was the last song of my set on the curbside tour and was always intended as the albums grand unwinding finale. The way it bookends the project with Crane is so appropriate. Id always wanted to start this album where Rocket left off and Crane does just that. This song I think captures the hope of the next record already as it features everyone, guests included, on the album, back for one last hoorah. We tried to add all the ingredients of the album into this one song as sort of a reprise to everything youd just heard. Extra credit is awarded to my Alma Maters chamber choir who practiced diligently for our arrival into their classroom last October for 90 minutes of easy breezy recording at 9am. Thanks again for your professionalism. I only hope the school allows them to skip a few months of school so they can tour with us.
The song itself is dedicated to my best friend Jerry who has taught me the most about this business, what Im capable of, and how to endure on all levels.
and here's the part that's not:
Not many people know about my vitamin addiction. or maybe i should call it a good habit. better health and nutrition? i dont know. it's early. it's nearly 2pm. i'm in a starbucks chasing omega-three fatty acids with chai lattes. Omega-fatty acids are pretty much fish oil. Fish oil is the latest craze, like arobics were in the 80's and fiber was in the 90's. Fish oil is brain food and i beleive in it as if god is not a bearded man, but rather a salmon or a catfish... if i haven't had a balanced breakfast with my vitamin c, omega's, anti-oxidants, CO-Q 10, and various others, then i'm gonna be way off later in the day. i beleive it's maximum health and awareness that keeps that genuine smile on one's face. and somedays it's my job to smile as wide as i can. like i'm trying to break records for containing the utmost happines that any person could possibly maintain... my mom sent me this quote the other day that i was thought was nice.
"The root of joy is gratefulness...It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful."
Vitamins are my sci-homeopathic way to practice gratitude. Be good to your body basically.
i dont normally sleep this long in the day. this tour has allowed me to rise early most days and exercise and/or play the golf game that i'm slowly improving upon. i dont normally drink tequila either, but last night filled my quota for the month. after the gig in new orleans we went to the house of blues to see the Digable Planets. i couldn't see the digable planets. i was too short. i couldn't hear the digable planets either. it was too loud to understand. but i could feel the bass and drums, and after a tequila shot or two and a good case of the wah-wahs i was on my way to outer space to a digable planet. next thing i know it was noon and i was in houston. looks like today i'll be doubled up on the anti-oxidants. this has nothing to do with song for a friend, other than that you are a friend and all songs are ultimately for you.
stay true.
do what you do.
i have to poo.
