Both! I loved him supporting at Manchester though. Got to meet him too! Met the wrong person though... haha.

Erm... I'm afraid I have to break with general consensus and say proper bonafide certifiable lunatic...
It was bordering on Boosh-esque randomness at times, which would be great, if it were funny. Unfortunately it didn't tickle my funny bone. He sounded like a Children's TV or Blue Peter presenter too! I know he seems to have loads of fans and I really do wish him well... but I'm just not one of them I'm afraid. Sayin that, I missed him first come on and explain who he was or what he did, so maybe (and its a loooong shot!) I missed the whole point completely... His random tactics do work though - Cos even now I can remember that "the person who works the hardest is the man in the van who sells fish, who will gut and fillet it, if you wish..." and the bloody "elec-tri-ci-ty runs through pylons and wires, pylons and wires, pylons and wires" (with the GRRR! bloody actions too! ) so he's obviously clever at what he does - in the same way advertisment

Yeah, that's the risky thing about entertainment like Gideon's: if you don't quite manage to pull it off -- if you fall even a little bit short --
you're just a dork.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, some of my best friends are... OK, *I'M* a dork. But then again, they don't prop me up on stage for 35 minutes, either, and call it entertainment. (I don't have that kind of courage.) Truth be told, I find Gideon amusing, when he's on. And he has a way with a catchy melody. And his band is good. And I fuckin' LOVE the game show horns -- the set is improved if, whenever they come along, you say in your best announcer voice "brought to you by Turtle Wax" or "Tell him what he's won, Bob!" Anyway, all this is not terribly meaningful, admittedly, but I thought it was entertaining. I just find him a little uneven in his loveable lunatic role. Sometimes he's spot on and other times.... not so much. And then there's his shirt.

AHHHHHHH!
That's what it is!
Its the shirt! Green we know is not a good colour to wear! (Jason himself told us so! )
Cheers Cat! |

I'll bow to your superior experience, Cat. I only saw Gideon in Warwick and I'm guessing you saw a bit more of him.
Even looking back now, I'm still a little usure what to make of Mr Conn but all I do know is that I have never laughed so much at a support act in my life. The looks of incredulity passing among my friends, generally followed-up with hysterical laughter meant that for us, at least, he was a highly enjoyable diversion. And then you listen to I Want You Around and it's a great tune. I still don't know what to think

^Yeah, and I'm pretty much where you are on the topic. I enjoyed it...
... and I'm only a little sorry. |
