i'm so surprised how easy it is to NOT eat meat. i'm really proud of myself, too... two weeks and counting! i feel like i've discovered a whole new
realm of food! melissa is totally into it too... she's looking up how to make her own seitan and is experimenting with different ways of preparing soy
proteins. its really fun and exciting.
my favorite veggie meal thus far? the fake chicken and broccoli i got from the veggie chinese place. OMG sooooo good! it was like eating real meat but totally not. i'm impressed. |

yayayayayayaaya!
i've had seitan once, and it was too "meaty" for me. some other proteins you should mix in with your new diet: tempeh- yea it's soy, but it's fermented so you get b12 from it! nutritional yeast- it's fucking disgusting but you can throw it in soups and stuff and it dissolves. or make some tofu ricotta cheese with it.. beans/legumes/nuts- throw em in a salad! quinoa- super good! use it instead of rice. that's what i'm making tonight! lentis- yummy in curries here's a good forum the post punk kitchen it has a bunch of recipes and will answer all your questions... yayayayay! i'm so proud of you!

i've already discovered tempeh and i luuuuurrrrrrve it. it takes on flavors really nicely and i love the texture.
the problem is that its not that i dont like meat... i just dont like that meat is animals. therefore seitan is a great alternative. melissa has prepared quinoi (pronounced keen-wah) and i also enjoyed it. i hear its the new superfood. i have to be careful tho - my pasta intake has increased a whooollleeee lot.... i dont wanna chunk up from not burning the carbs off. if i could only join the gym.... |

ommmmgggg carob!!!! member how i went nutty for the carob mousse in portland?!?! god that shit is SOOOO GOOOD and tastes JUST like chocolate! i was also stoned
out of my gourd at the time
last night i had a morningstar burger - myliss! burger! it had blackbeans and corn and was spicey and DEELISH. and i had some organic waffle fries. i have discovered, though, that egg whites do not cause me stomach problems! for the past several years i couldn't have eggs for breakfast cause they would give me massive stomach aches... i would have to lay with my ass up in the air to try to pass gas and oh god it just sucked. but now that i've figured this out it makes me happy! i'm not ready to give up dairy yet, but i'm on my way... i'm still too scared to try the vegan cheese... mainly because it says "mozzarella flavor" which i find a little strange. but at least i'm making good choices for my dairy such as free-range and cruelty free. didja all know that whole foods has a STRICT policy for all the foods that appear in their stores? it makes me feel better about the animal products. i've read the policy (its a part of their animal compassion foundation) and its pretty neat how they demand good treatment for all of the animals and animal products that make it to their shelves... from how many chickens is too many to the temperature of the truck that they're transported in and beyond. they also have a list of over 200 ingredients that are banned from the store - if a product has one of those items, they dont sell it. to me, its well worth the extra dollar or two you'll pay at the register. i love whole foods |

recipe (forgot where i got it... somewhere online):
Ingredients: 1 gram cracker pie crust (I made my own-- next time i'm gonna try making a crust of granola) 2 (8 ounce) containers of Tofutti cream cheese 2 tablespoons cornstarch 2 cups confectioners' sugar 8 tablespoons of lemon juice (I used a tad bit more) 4 tablespoons of Tofutti sour cream 1 (21 ounce) can cherry (or strawberry) pie filling (i just used fresh strawberries. i don't like the syrupy shiitake) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) 2. In a blender, combine vegan cream cheese, lemon juice, confectioners' sugar. Dissolve cornstarch into sour cream and then add to the blender with the rest of the stuff above. Pour filling into crust. 3. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees F. Reduce heat to 325 and cook for another 20 minutes OR UNTIL SET(add 5 more minutes if not set, make sure it doesn't spill out). Cool on wire rack and let sit for several hours. 4. Add cherry/strawberry filling to the top of the pie and serve! |

My mom's visiting soon, so I thought I'll cook her a belated Mothers' Day dinner.. My manager just gave me this awesome sounding recipe.
There's one with veal, basted with egg and parmesan flavoured bread crumbs, then fry it, topping it off with a tomato salsa and cheese melt.. Then of
course lamb shanks go well with rosemary and that's about it.. Then I think I'll make Jason's chocomole for dessert

does anyone have any tried and true fruit cookie recipes? i can no longer have chocolate (or nuts or raisins) and need a replacement. i've found a few
recipes for blueberry cookies on one website, but they always seem to get really mixed reviews - like 5 people having major problems with the cookies not
setting up right and then 5 people swearing it's the best recipe ever and they turned out perfect.
