What a fantastic show, Jason was amazing as always. I loved looking up at the balcony during Bella Luna to see everyone with their cell phone screens on
acting as stars that glitter in the sky. You guys were all awesome. Lets have him come back next week!

Jason, like always, had a great performance due to his vocal abilities. I think Matt Nathanson stole the show though. He had a better control of the crowd
and people were more into it. I am a Mraz fan from a while back and he only played ONE older song (1,000 things), so that left me kind of disappointed. I
understand that he is promoting a new album, but come on. I guess I just expected a classic Mraz performance...

matty nay rocks me to the core. he made a lot of new fans last night. I'm soooooooo happy I got to say hi cuz its been 2 years since I've seen him.
sucha great guy.
there was a great amount of light on the stage, so my pics came out pretty good. I can't upload them until I get back to chicago tomorrow. gotta do cincy first... I loved this show. there was SO much energy from the guys. they were all smiles and having a great time on stage. even eric was smiling and waving at everyone. jason seemed to love the venue and was having a ball. we were pretty excited about On Love, in Sadness!!! that song makes me bounce. I was pretty sad during Live High when the horns should've appeared in the balcony. the lift me up line balm still didn't heal my broken heart. Only Human really wasn't the same. Toca was even singing the horn parts. he must miss GLH too. I rocked out sooooo hard to Dynamo. Every time I hear that intro, I'm propelled into a dancing frenzy!!! this was my FIRST show that jason didn't do Y&IB (not including the coffeehouse-like shows). I can't believe it finally happened! I had mega fun in line with rikki, rachel, amy, amira, cat, tab, allie, adrianne, ramenelle, nikki, and a ton of people... even if we were badgered my homeless guys all night. I will post my pics when I'm not on my cell... PS: sorry I didn't concert call anyone last night. my phone died when I was CCing someone during matt's set.
Well... Everyone else is doing it...

eeeeeeeeeeep!
i'm still not over how incredible the day was getting in line with cheryl rikki amy and amira at the break of dawn was a blast. we all actually slept for like at least an hour or two so that was nice. and the rest of the day including more yummy friends joining (cat, tab) and many new friends to me that i got to meet )
on top of this all, a few of my really good guy friends showed up before doors opened and i got to hang out with them and drive a few of them home (and get desperately lost in the process!....it took us two and a half hours to get home! TWO AND A HALF!!) <----rachel lives 45 minutes from detroit. anywayy, the show was amazing. while i just started listening to matt like..two days ago..i absolutely LOVED him! i'm going out today to buy both of his cd's at best buy! i just felt this huge amount of respect for him. hardly ANYBODY in the audience knew his songs (judging by how many people were singing) but he still kept an EXTREMELY captive audience regardless. that takes skill. i'm a new fan! jason, jason, jason. could i have asked for more? everything was incredible: the mood, the energy, the setlist, the everythingggggg! ahh. the fact that he twisted the setlist to bits was awesome. nobody ever knew what was coming (even the band!) when dynamo broke out, i don't think anyone in the whole place didn't see how hard we were dancing! haha, what a blast! live high and butterfly were complete with cheryl making the horns noises everytime they shouldve been present! and bella luna was really fun just becuase i watched toca play his sht-sht-sheeee thingy. at one point, i realized i wasn't even listening ot the music but just staring at him playing that dang thing, and then he noticed it too and laughed at me :[ lol the lighting was SWEET though. i got a lot of good pics, and definately have one distinct favorite of matt, j, and toca that i'm very pleased with :] eeeeeeeeee! i'm STILL GIDDY! :] it was so much fun! i want to see you all again soon :] p.s. cheryl- did you notice those girls that somehow got to the front before us didn't know any song except i'm yours? they didn't even know the remedy :[ they were 12 year old bricks int he middle of the front row. boooooo on a totally unrelated note: does the silhouette cut chipboard?

The show was awesome. I wished I could have stayed for the whole thing, but glad to hear I only missed one song (even if it's one of my favorites from the
new album, Butterfly).
My pictures turned out ok, not great. I'll post all the decent ones, but here's one for now:

Random comments: Jason is the man! He was on fire last night. His rendition of 'Bella Luna' got me through the Michigan DOT nightmare this morning.
What was all of the stuff that people were throwing on the stage last night? Does anybody know what the T-shirts said and did anybody remove them from the
stage? I'm glad to see Jason is taking the polaroids again, but why did he stop doing the robot intro to 'Remedy?' Many thanks to TicketMaster
who sold me a ticket for a non-existent seat thus forcing the Filmore to upgrade me to VIP seating.

eneal123 wrote:Sorry you were disappointed with the setlist. I'd have counted OLIS as an oldie, though. I enjoyed Matty Nay's set, but I don't think control is the right word, seeing as he didn't intend for us to sing an entire Journey song. But covers are a smart idea for an opening act, and Matt sure knows how to pick 'em. |

whew. backsies.
this was probably my favourite show of the 5 i caught since april. our little group was fantastic and the vibe of the show was just amazing. i did miss billy, the bros and justin but matt nathanson and my fellow torontonian justin nozuka were pretty good back ups i guess oh, and hearing on love, in sadness and fly me too the moon didn't hurt either i took ZERO pictures during the show (mostly because i've given up and i mean really what am i going to do with 1000 shots of jason?!?!) but did take an amazing video of these two crazy freestylers in the crowd singing along to dynamo. i'll post asap. other than the crazy shorty that was trying to start fights with EVERYONE in her vacinity and the surly teenager that cat gave birth to mid-way through the show ("i just want to take a picture! i just want to take a picture!"), the rest of the crowd was amazing. i sorta taught the dynamo dance to the girls to my right. just call me martha graham. not sure what was up with the extra-long encore, but i love the improv-ed feeling of the show... the full band came out with jason originally and left the stage when he decided to do 1000 things impromptu (someone called out "do something old school!" and he happily obliged). i too missed our horns (there was less "groove" during butterfly, live high, and only human - but hey, who am i to complain. not like i stopped dancing for a minute anyways haha) but it's okay because my brain added them in when appropriate. big probs to rikki, cheryl, amy, amira (my peep!), and rachel for being so hardcore and braving the detroit homeless brigade overnight (i bet you were wishing for the random high-on-e rave crowd from toronto!! at least they were peace-loving!). it was great to see everyone - tab, allie, katie - my big tit says "what's up" and "poutine"; adrianne and danielle (i got your back against teenagers any day guys!); and my roomie cat (thanks for giving me all the covers haha). if i missed anyone, i'm sorry. i'm still tired (see weet thread for "things that melissa does that are stupid when she is over-tired: the detroit edition). i miss you guys!! ![]() |

overall, i have mixed feelings on the show.
first and foremost, i hate the city of detroit. justin nozuka was a pretty good opener, cute kid, but not nearly as entertaining as justin kredible. i miss that tour. matt nathanson was entertaining, mostly. good set, one of the better openers i have seen open for jason. jason's set was good. i missed the horns bigtime and even was hearing them play during songs... ear hallucinations? haha weird. on love in sadness was a great great surprise. i heart that song. but bella luna? blech. sorry, but there could have been a million other songs i'd rather hear than that. oh well. the band was definitely in good spirits and cheered me up after being really upset with people's actions before the show. i was so glad that he played only human... cuz for a minute it seemed as if it wasn't going to make the lineup. thank you. i, too, am glad you and i both wasn't played. it's nice to hear a different song as a closer than the same song for 7 consecutive shows. overall, i give this show a B-. It had its great moments, it had its bad ones, but in the end, wasn't too memorable for me. average. .amy. 6.27.04- Summerfest, Milwaukee, WI | 8.28.04-Michigan State, East Lansing, MI
