i hate when the word 'arrogant' or its derivatives are used in an article about mraz, unless a negative precedes it...but otherwise, i'm happy to
see him getting reviews in any form.

arrogant... cocky... it comes with the territory when you hang with a rooster, no?

huh>?? just because he doesn't want to fit into the mold, wants to be 'more versatile and refined mold' means he's 'accused of
arrogance'? that sucks.
This might be the opportunity

no, he's accused of arrogance because mr.a-z was all "I'm the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa la la's" and "take a look at
me go from zero to hero".. i think it's a pretty fair accusation. mraz even says the new album is stripped of himself.. meaning he realizes the last
album was full of himself

i feel like a lot of the criticism comes from 'wordplay' though, which...i thought...was all tongue-in-cheek like, you want me to write a single? well
here we go...but people didn't/don't get the sarcasm

^EXACTLY. wordplay was taking a piss at the record label ppl who were controlling his creative input (why do ppl take it literally? some people go so far as to
say he don't make sense in his songs). and that line, 'zero to hero', it appeared on Geek in the pink, and he is not necessarily speaking for
himself, but for 'geeks' out there? and since when albums are not about the artistes? even for his latest album, jason says the songs may be about him
but ppl can interpret them in their own way and make it theirs.
This might be the opportunity

thekneisley wrote: thats very true... but if i had never heard of jason mraz and wordplay came on the radio, i'd probably think he was arrogant and just sang songs about
how awesome he thinks he is. obviously he's a very humble and unselfish person, but from an outsider's perspective, it might not have looked that way
from some of the songs on mr.a-z. so i'm just saying the accusations aren't completely unfounded.

now THAT'S a review!
mark--i was just clarifying why i hate when people say he's arrogant...because they just listen to wordplay and move on..i totally agree, especially since that's the first impression my friend had of wordplay until other songs and live performances proved otherwise. oh well, at least we know he's not, right?
