So it's been a while since I have commented here, but I just have to say how EXTREMELY disappointed I am with the new album. First of all, I absolutely
loved the cuts from We Sing and We Dance. These got me so excited for the studio album. But I just don't get why they can't just use a "less is
more" philosophy when producing the studio releases. I realize that Jason likes to create the musical soundscapes, but here are my gripes:
A. Lose the horns, it just sounds cheesy and drowns out his amazing voice B. While the kids singing in the background was cute ONCE for "Song for a Friend", we don't need to hear it on every other track...after a while, I'm wondering if I'm going to here a solo from Elmo. Is this a childrens' album? e.g. I was excited when Coyote started out to be able to blast it with my windows down, but then was quickly disappointed when it got continually weaker and weaker. C. The chorus to "Details in the Fabric"...we've already heard the whole "own your name" stuff in a couple songs...Plain Jane, The Beauty in Ugly (I know)... D. I was REALLY looking forward to having the Dynamo version from the "Farewell to Europe" youtube clip from a few months back. That version was just incredible...I was utterly disappointed to hear that they picked this other version for the album that doesn't even come close....seriously. Does anyone know where I can get the full version from the youtube clip? E. He seems to be using the breathy voice thing these days way too much. Am I the only one who has noticed this? Let me just finish by saying that I've been an obsessive fan for years, and I just don't get how these studio albums continue to do nothing but distract from the true talent that is Jason Mraz. All he needs is Toca and Ian. That's it. Ditch the horns and the shitty studio effects. Just keep it basic and true. I'm so thankful that the acoustic versions were also released, but....this is just a hard pill to swallow. |

Not sure if anyone has posted this, but there's a COMPLETELY legal, downloadable version available in Australia / New Zealand on jbhifimusic.com.au.
(JB HiFi is a massive CD/DVD/Hi Fi chain in Australia). It's WMA, though. It is $16.99 for the album plus all 3 EP's tracks (25 tracks in total). |

^ Interesting how they don't have the EPs by themselves but are selling it together with his album.. Wonder if iTunes will do the same.
Anyhoo, on another note, I was just looking at a Japanese website for Jason's Japanese import edition. Apparently the 2 special tracks will be Life Is Wonderful (live in Amsterdam) and Man Gave Names To All The Animals (From the Gospel Collection Session).. as well as an I'm Yours CD extra, not too sure what that is.. So I don't think there's any other special tracks.. Unless they'll release another version after.

napster has the 'we dance' EP to have as a tether download with my student subscription, but not 'we sing'--and even for 'we dance'
it's only 'only human'...the other three tracks aren't even listed. i found that kind of interesting with all the single talk going on.

in other news, looking at the itunes top albums page is so fun to see 2 mraz albums...the cover art really stands out--i can't wait for wswdwst to come out so he'll have 3 on there!
