Granted, the quality on the actual album, as Jon pointed out, is much better but I have doubts that the casual fan is willing to buy an album he/she can hear/rip from The Space for free. Maybe the record label doesn't like it, but he is all for it. I like this about him. It shows he isn't all about the profit and selling as many albums as possible. He isn't a sell out. He keeps it real. That's how he got discovered and more popular. He'd rather get his music out there than make a few extra bucks. He's in it for the music and the art. Of course he wants to do well and get more fans and make money, who wouldn't? It's just nice that those aren't his main incentives. Wow I get all deep when I am awake at 4 AM -Jess

I really hope that the label knows what they're doing here, because I would hate for Jason not to get the success he deserves with this album--it's apparent that he's really put his everything into it, and he deserves more than a bunch of lukewarm fans ripping his music off of Myspace. ...that being said, I can't stop listening to "If It Kills Me." But I think this album is mediocre. It really missed out on the potential greatness I had expected by watching all the recording session videos. I thought it would be more acoustic, organic, gospel. The songwriting and vocals are stunning. The acoustic organic component to the album are the EPs. If you like those better than just listen to them. But some songs on the album are still very organic, like Lucky, Details and Beautiful mess.

Why do you think he puts songs up on myspace like "mrs heather and mr gray", "mechanichesville", "goor orderly direction" "longest day"..(the list goes on) if he doesn't expect them to then circulate. He knows that they haven't made and prob won't make an album so he puts them there as a way for us to hear them and get them out to the rest of the world! After listening to all the songs, I don't think he was high enough while writing this album. It just doesn't seem as unique and deep and like... weird haha. Like he doesn't use big words and crazy metaphors. Well he does but not as much as the hella good shit from back in the day. I DO really like the deep meaningful songs though. I just still love how his voice sounds just as good, if not better, live. <3 he's so amazing. sigh it's been way too long since I have seen him. Like 2 years it seems. LAME. I think seeing this album live would make me like it more. And on the actual CD when I can afford it. -Jess

(When he mentions Jesus, it's in the same verse as "a party getting started in the yard.") His third studio CD includes pleasantly light-weight james with beachy guitars ("Live High"), R&B horns ("Make it Mine"), even playful scat singing ("I'm Yours"). Of special note is "Lucky," Mraz's bubbly duet with Colbie Caillat, which should have girls swooning all summer long. B+ Download this: "Lucky" " Meh. EW said Mr. A-Z was the worst album of 05 so clearly their reviewers aren't expected to be too clued in to Mraz and his scene. I'm pretty sure Mraz has ruminated on "life and stuff" more than occasionally in his stuff, so to offhandly discard his lyrical content means the review was probably based on a couple listens in the car on the way to/from work. "EVEN playful scat singing?!" C'mon reviewer-dude... listen to a live take of Common Pleasure or RKOP and you'll see that studio take of I'm Yours is like a vocal warmup for Mraz, if that. The review makes it sound like this is a big stretch and suprise territory for JM. Duh. (Sorry for any typos, re-typed it "by hand" out of the mag. Ya get what ya pay for.) I think Jack Johnson has incurred much more commercial success so anyone who sings and plays the acoustic guitar is gonna get compared to Jack Johnson and/or John Mayer. The EW reviewers obviously don't know much about Jason and his music, but atleast they give him a B+. I would be sending angry e-mails if it was given anything less! Ha ha!

Jason encompasses everything that the three "comparable" (Mraz, Mayer, Johnson) artist attempt to create, a rich powerful sound that is incredibly linked to unbelievable vocals with catchy music. So saying that he's riding the coatails of jack Johnson sort of upsets me but who cares...Anyways...In terms of the record, I think that we were all expecting an upbeat roller coaster of an album..however if you really kept in touch with what Jason said he was attempting to create in this almbum, you would realize that he accomplsihed exactly what he wanted. In all of the Crazy Man Ju-Jus' he constantly said he wanted a personal and acoustic album. However, in later Ju-Jus he mentions the necessity of approval from the record lable (meaning radio and record selling ability). I think that this CD (especially after 2-3 listenings) hits that note perfectly...an acoustic vocal set with raw music, little tinkering with synthesizers...I really think that apart from a raw live CD this is the closest thing to it.
